Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data TelcoKaki collects when you visit this website, why we collect it, and what your rights are. We aim to comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) and — where applicable to overseas visitors — the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. If you are unsure about anything below, please contact us.
1. Who we are
TelcoKaki is an independent editorial website operated by an individual publisher in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In data-protection terms, we are the "data user" (PDPA) / "data controller" (GDPR) for personal data processed through this site. Contact details are on our contact page.
2. What we collect
We collect only what is needed to run the site and reply to messages:
- Contact form data. If you fill in the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you enter. We do not require your phone number, address, IC number, or any government identifier — please don't send those.
- Cookies and analytics. When you visit the site, our web server records standard log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL, timestamp). If you accept the cookie banner, our analytics provider may set a first-party cookie to measure aggregate visitor behaviour. See our cookie policy for the full list.
- Third-party ad networks. If we display ads on the site, the ad network (currently Google AdSense or equivalent) may set its own cookies to serve non-personalised or personalised ads according to your consent choice.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
3. Why we process this data (legal basis)
- To answer you. When you use the contact form we process your data on the basis of your consent (ticking the box), and to take steps in response to your enquiry.
- To keep the site running. Server logs are processed under our legitimate interest in operating a secure website — including detecting abuse and debugging.
- Analytics and advertising. Only where you have given consent through the cookie banner.
4. Who we share it with
We are a very small operation. We do not sell your data. Data may be handled by the following categories of processor, strictly for the purposes above:
- Our hosting provider (to serve the pages).
- An email service (to receive your contact-form messages).
- An analytics provider (to count visits) — only if you consent.
- An ad network (to serve ads) — only if you consent to personalised ads.
Where any of these providers are outside Malaysia, we rely on their standard contractual protections and, where applicable, EU standard contractual clauses.
5. How long we keep it
- Contact-form emails: up to 24 months, then deleted, unless there is an ongoing conversation.
- Server logs: 30 days, then rotated out.
- Analytics data: aggregated and anonymised after 14 months.
6. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- Confirm what personal data we hold about you.
- Provide a copy of it.
- Correct anything that's inaccurate.
- Delete your data (where we have no ongoing lawful reason to keep it).
- Withdraw consent to analytics or advertising cookies — you can do this by rejecting cookies in the banner, or by clearing your browser storage.
To make a request, email us via the contact page. We aim to respond within 21 days. You also have the right to complain to the Personal Data Protection Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Perlindungan Data Peribadi) if you believe your rights have been infringed.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Emails from the contact form are transmitted over TLS. We keep the number of people with access to any personal data as small as reasonably possible (in practice: one). No online service is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect information.
8. Links to other sites
Our articles link to carrier websites, news sources and reference material. Once you follow a link, you are on someone else's site and their privacy policy applies — not ours.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "last reviewed" date at the top and, for significant changes, post a note on the home page for at least 30 days.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data: please use the contact form and pick "Something else" as the subject, with the word "privacy" in your message.
