About TelcoKaki
TelcoKaki is a small independent editorial site based in Kuala Lumpur. We write plain-English guides about mobile plans in Malaysia — the plans, the coverage, the paperwork, the fine print nobody reads until the second bill.
It started in 2022, honestly, out of frustration. I was helping my mum switch her line to a cheaper plan, and every "review" I found online was either an unboxing video that lasted 22 minutes, a comparison table that hadn't been updated since 2019, or a press release rewritten with a couple of adjectives changed. So I started writing the notes I wished I could have read.
Who "we" is
Mostly me. Real name available on request via the contact page. I've had a Malaysian mobile line for over twenty years — long enough to remember when 3G felt like magic. A couple of friends in the KL tech scene help proofread and occasionally contribute — anything they write, we credit at the top of the post.
How we work
- We pay for our own SIMs and top-ups. No press SIMs, no review units.
- Speed tests are run on our own phones in the actual places we live and travel. Not in a lab. When possible we log the location and the phone model.
- If a network's PR team offers us anything — even a bag of merchandise at an event — we decline, or if we can't, we mention it in the post.
- We update older posts when prices change. There's a "last checked" line at the top of every article.
- We don't use AI to write our posts. The whole point of this site is a human voice.
How we pay for the hosting
Two ways. Display ads on the site (that's what the cookie banner is for — some ad networks use cookies for frequency capping). And a handful of articles have affiliate links, which means if you click through and sign up for a plan we get a small commission — but the price to you is the same. Any post with affiliate links says so at the top, in plain text, not buried in the footer.
We do not take payment from any mobile carrier to review their plans favourably. If you ever see a post here that reads like an advertisement, please tell us — that's a failure and we'll fix it.
What we don't do
We're not a comparison shopping engine, we're not a broker, and we can't sell you a plan. We can point you at what to watch out for. Anything financial — porting, contracts, billing disputes — you handle directly with your carrier.
We also don't cover business/enterprise plans, IoT lines, or wholesale MVNOs beyond a brief mention. That's a different world and we'd probably get it wrong.
Contact
Best way is the contact form. You can also email hello (at) telcokaki (dot) example. We reply, usually within a few working days. If you have a factual correction, please include a screenshot or link — makes it much faster.
