Cookie policy
A "cookie" is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Some cookies are essential for the site to work; others are set by us or by third parties to measure traffic or serve ads. This page lists what we use.
Categories we use
1. Strictly necessary
| Name | Purpose | Storage | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
tk_cookie_consent_v1 |
Remembers whether you accepted or rejected non-essential cookies, so we don't show the banner every visit. | localStorage (first party) | Until you clear browser storage |
These are set the moment you make a choice on the banner. Without them, we can't remember your preference. They do not track you and are not shared.
2. Analytics (only with consent)
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* |
Google Analytics 4 | Distinguish unique visitors, measure aggregate traffic. | Up to 24 months (IP anonymised) |
We use Google Analytics with IP anonymisation to see which articles are read and roughly where readers come from. If you reject non-essential cookies, we do not load Google Analytics at all.
3. Advertising (only with consent)
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| various | Google AdSense / Google Ad Manager | Frequency capping, ad measurement, personalised advertising where consented. | Session up to 13 months |
If you reject non-essential cookies, we ask ad partners to serve non-personalised ads only. Some ad partners may still use limited data for fraud detection and frequency capping — this is technically required for them to serve any ad at all.
How to control cookies
- Use the cookie banner at the bottom of the page — click "Reject non-essential" to opt out, or "Accept all" to opt in.
- Clear your browser storage (Settings → Privacy → Clear site data) to reset your choice; you'll be asked again next visit.
- Most browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely. Guides: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
- Opt out of Google personalised ads: Google Ad Settings.
Do Not Track
There is no consistent industry standard for the "Do Not Track" browser signal, but we treat DNT as equivalent to rejecting non-essential cookies. If your browser sends DNT=1, we do not load analytics regardless of the banner state.
Changes
If we add or remove a category, we'll update this page and refresh the consent banner so you can re-choose.
